April 2, 2006
The following has been has been reported to the Association:
On Saturday night, April 1st 2006, a local family on Muirfield Trail was enjoying a movie in the basement home theater when noises outside disrupted them. The home was mostly dark at the time. When the father of 2 small children investigated, he found 3 large men standing inside his fenced rear yard. “I have 2 fences from the Muirfield side, one from the laneway, all are latched but never locked”
The men had come through the front fence from Muirfield, and were working on the second gate when the homeowner startled them. The chase was on. The crooks bolted out through the unlocked fence from which they entered, and headed up Muirfield towards the park. The homeowner said “they were big guys, all three at least 6 feet tall, and they could really run, making me (the pursuer)think they were in their twenties.” The homeowner is athletic and in good shape. He made it to the park in hot pursuit when the 3 split up; winded the homeowner gave up the chase and the punks got away.
As a general rule, chasing crooks is a bad idea, especially in this day and age and the Association DEFINITELY doesn’t support this tactic.
The Homeowner then asked if I would help him install some exterior lighting. I said sure, “right after we lock the gates”.
The message here is simple, and it reinforces the findings of the security audit posted here on this site:
